Can AI Really Replace Your Therapist? I tested it on myself.

A lot of people I know are really scared about the future of AI and worried that their entire career is going to be outsourced to a computer.

Well, that may be true, but this newsletter contains three useful AI prompts to help you sort through the next few months. These prompts will help you feel better about your future in minutes… not months.

A BIT OF HUMOR

I read a study that said that AI was fed decades of research about cognitive behavioral therapy. The results the AI THERAPIST got with real human clients were statistically better than with human therapist trained in CBT. That’s amazing… and a bit scary… right?

So I thought I would give it a whirl myself and see if it could sort through some of my personal and business decisions over the coming months. Over the last month, I’ve spent hours and hours feeding my books and materials and articles about myself into both the software called LUMINARY AI  and the paid version of ChatGPT. They are both about $20 a month.

Both of these Ai software have different uses, but you can even use the free version of most AI models for a few hours a day… but do sign up for an account. If you don’t… it can’t store your information and get to know you. That’s where the magic happens… it remembers everything you tell it. (Like a good therapist or coach.)

Here’s some prompts to use right now that might actually give you profound insight that even a $250 counselor might not be able to provide.

But before you do, I have to warn you—I’ve done some tests, and sometimes the AI simply lies to you. It tells you what you want to hear. So, you have to be mindful that the advice they’re giving you is always framed by the quality of the question.

If you were to say “Tell me five reasons I might want to leave my wife.”  It will make up five logical reasons. Very bad question.

Those of you that have read the book “The Magic Question” understand how the cognitive bias and the RAS system works. AI is trying very hard to copy the human brain. So, our flaws are often AI’s flaws.

So the quality of input and how you frame the question will totally dictate the quality of the output.

That doesn’t mean the information can’t be useful, but without a properly structured magic prompt, or exquisitely worded prompt, you’re going to get some weird results.

For example, in one of my cases in my forensic consulting business, I fed some information in, and I asked it basically how it would defend this position from the legal District Attorney’s perspective—and it gave me great answers.

I asked a different question, try this case it from the prosecution’s perspective—it also gave me great answers. But it never told me the truth at the heart of the matter.

It even once told me that in modern psychology, pleasure is a greater motivator than pain. But everyone that’s read even a minor book on psychology knows from Pavlov’s dog that pain is a much greater motivator than pleasure—at least in the short term.

So even if you’re not in emotional pain or don’t need a therapist, here are three prompts given three situations that I think you’ll have a lot of fun investigating in either one of the applications I mentioned.

🧠 If you’re feeling anxiety, stress, or depression…

Use this prompt in ChatGPT:

“Act as a licensed Cognitive Behavioral Therapist with expertise in treating anxiety, stress, and depression. Help me identify the thought patterns and behaviors that might be fueling my emotional struggles. Ask me 5 thoughtful questions, one at a time. Then, guide me through simple daily CBT-based tools I can use to feel more calm, in control, and emotionally resilient.”

❤️ If you’re struggling with relationships or love…

Use this prompt in ChatGPT:

“Act as a highly trained Gottman practitioner who specializes in attachment styles, emotional needs, and subconscious relationship patterns. Help me explore what’s creating conflict or distance in my romantic relationships. Ask me 5 emotionally intelligent questions, one at a time. Then, explain my likely attachment style and give me daily practices to improve intimacy, communication, and self-awareness.”

💼 If you’re struggling with career or money issues…

Use this prompt in ChatGPT:

“Act as an experienced CEO and entrepreneur who has successfully built multiple businesses and coached hundreds of other CEOs through career transitions, imposter syndrome, and money mindset blocks. Help me identify what’s keeping me stuck in my career or income. Ask me 5 powerful, clarifying questions one at a time. Then, give me a personalized 30-day roadmap to grow my income, confidence, and clarity.”

As always, remember: your mind is your greatest asset. As of today, they can’t replace the human brain… but most AI’s are smarter than a person with an IQ 180. So, use it to your advantage now before it takes over our every aspect of our lives.

Don’t despair. With every great technology comes opportunity—and you have to start looking for that angle now… AI is going to change everything. So, you have to get ahead of it while we are still in the “infancy stage”.  Remember in 1996 when people said bookstores would never close and the internet was just a fad.  Well, AI will do in 3 years what it took 20 years for the internet to change.
